Ternopil gypsum cave can enter the UNESCO's heritage list

'Optymistychna' cave located in Ternopil Oblast can become the object of the UNESCO World Natural Heritage.

The length of explored cave paths is 214 km. Earlier, the Ternopil cave system was introduced into the Guinness Book of Records as the largest gypsum cave in the world and as the world's second largest cave on path length (Mammoth-Flint Ridge Cave System in the USA ranks the 1st in the list).

As the Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine says, the first meeting at the level of the regional council and speleologists has been held. In addition, there is an agreement to create a working group who will formulate proposals for the inclusion of the Ternopil unique cave system in the preparatory UNESCO's objects list.
