LVIV BAKERS TO MAKE THE BIGGEST IN UKRAINE GINGERBREAD HOUSE

May 6, Ukrainian record on the biggest gingerbread house will be fixed at the Rynok Square in Lviv (at 1p.m). The action mission is to revive an ancient tradition that was popular before in Lviv.

For many centuries a great variety of sweets and pastry had been produced and sold in Lviv. 'Yurashky', famous Lviv honey gingerbreads, were among of them. They appeared more than 200 years ago. At that time merry fairs with musicians and dancing were very common at St.George Square. In the heart of the fair there was a tent selling honey gingerbread of different colors, shapes and taste. Gingerbread received the name 'yurashka' after the name of the square and cathedral. Every guests of the fair bought this gingerbread as a gift for friends, family or sweethearts.

The house will be made of about 2300 gingerbread bricks (in total 500kgs of dough).

The bakers from Lviv Handmade Gingerbread Yurashky will use 250kgs of flour, 50kgs of butter, 50kgs of honey and syrup, 500 eggs.

The house will be 4x2.5 meters.

After the record being fixed all the guests will be able to taste gingerbread, participate in gingerbread decorating workshop.
