EUROPEAN SQUARE EVOLUTION: FROM HORSE FAIR TO CULTURAL EVENTS
Theatrical, European, Tsar, III International, Stalin, Lenin Komsomol - just in 1991 Kyiv European Square received its current name.
At different times the square served as a location for horse fair, the first city theatre, hotel 'European' and monument to Oleksandr III.
Now the square is surrounded by 'Volodymyr park' (its total area is 50Ha).
European Square in Kyiv have been and still is very important for the city. It was a venue for political demonstrations, protests, meetings. Now it is one of the historical and cultural city centers as Ukrainian House, hotel 'Dnipro', National Philharmonics, Puppet Theatre and Parliament Library are located there.
